Welcome to Litten & Sipe

Established in 1877, Litten & Sipe is a mid-sized, AV-rated firm that offers expertise in civil litigation, commercial & transactional law, local government, and estate & trust planning. Though we concentrate in these areas, our staff is prepared to handle cases in virtually any field.

At Litten & Sipe, we take great pride in our work, and we also make a socially conscious effort to assist members of our community. We are well-respected within the community, completing pro bono work for groups such as Blue Ridge Legal Services, Habitat for Humanity, churches and other non-profit organizations. No matter the size or scope, we handle each case with the same determination and commitment.

Summer Associates

Litten & Sipe offers a Summer Associate Program that gives rising 2L and 3L law school students a realistic look at our firm’s culture and the way we practice. We usually hire 2-3 associates each summer. The Summer Associate Program typically lasts for 8-12 weeks, though it can be modified to fit an associate’s schedule. At Litten & Sipe, we view our summer associates as tomorrow’s partners and have a vested interest in making our associates permanent members of our team. Associates are given the opportunity to develop confidence in the legal field, as they gain hands-on experience working with real clients on real cases.

Work Environment

Unlike other selective firms, we work with our office doors open. Our goal is to promote interaction at all levels in the firm. Associates collaborate with partners regarding the legal challenges of the day. In addition, associates are taught caseload management and effective communication strategies to develop professional and personal relationships with clients. Most importantly, Litten & Sipe handles every case as a team. Attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries work together in an unstratified environment.

Our team is committed to providing the best legal representation possible to every client. While we are dedicated to our work, we also seek to maintain a balance between work and family. At Litten & Sipe, every employee is encouraged to pursue both a rewarding legal career and a fulfilling personal life.

Benefits

Litten & Sipe provides excellent benefits including health insurance, a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan, paid holidays, and generous personal and vacation time. Employees look forward to our annual summer picnic and Christmas dinner party.

The most valuable benefit, however, is the opportunity to work with some of the most knowledgeable, thoughtful, and professional people you will find anywhere. This firm is a team—every member is just as important as the next, and each provides insight and experience to get the job done.
