Jason A. Botkins

Jason was born and raised in Covington, Virginia, and currently lives with his wife Mary in Bridgewater, Virginia. 

Jason’s practice focuses on municipal law and civil litigation. Jason represents two towns and advises the firm’s local government clients on a variety of issues, including the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, local taxation, zoning enforcement, and public procurement matters. Jason has specialized knowledge and litigation experience in cases involving defamation, workers’ compensation, the Fair Labor Standards Act, constitutional claims of excessive use of force and inadequate health care, and other matters of public concern.

Jason has extensive trial experience representing individuals involved in automobile accidents, whether as plaintiff or defendant. Jason has also successfully litigated cases involving breach of contract, property rights disputes, and insurance coverage issues. Jason appears in state and federal courts in Virginia and has successfully argued before the Supreme Court of Virginia.

$3.1 Million Jury Verdict: On October 1, 2007, Jason and Donald D. Litten obtained a jury award of $3,100,000.00 in the Circuit Court of Rockingham County, Virginia. We represented the estate of an individual who was fatally shot in her workplace by a coworker. The lawsuit alleged that the employer failed to adequately respond to previous reports of inappropriate conduct by the coworker.

Supreme Court of Virginia

In February 2015, Jason argued before the Supreme Court of Virginia in support of a successful outcome obtained in the Circuit Court of Rockingham County, Virginia. The case involved a judgment obtained on a personal injury claim without obtaining proper service of process on the defendant. In April 2015, the Supreme Court issued an opinion affirming the judgment of the trial court.
